Artist statement

Erwan Mouazan is a self-taught collage artist born in France in 1978. Currently working in Finland, he has been living in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Morocco.

“I use collage as a medium to build bridges between ideas, materials, textures and feelings. I’m interested in exploring how the juxtaposition of disparate elements can create new meanings, offer fresh perspectives on a given thinking or question established a priories. Texts and images from different background interconnect, form a new ecosystem and offer multiple layers of interpretation.“

Erwan’s process incorporates cut-up techniques from Dadaists and beat artists, while his whole creative journey is often led by meditative & mindfulness states in which the here and now is more important than the final outcome of the production.

Subjects deal with unsustainability of our current production and consumption patterns, creating internal and external conflicts arising from loss of meaning in a hyper connected  individualized society. The intimate blends with the universal, raw feelings are twisted and offered to the audience for contemplation and reflexion.

Erwan exhibits in various galleries and creative places in Europe, and does commissions illustrations for magazines.
